Celebration of the Glory of Courage
Remembrance Day is the occasion we celebrate the glory of courage. We remember those soldiers and fighters who risked their lives to enter into battle for our freedom and our security.
One of the greatest tales of courage ever sung for facing an invincible enemy in battle is called the Bhagavad-Gita. It takes place right in the middle of a battlefield and begins with a General (Arjuna) who wants to back out of the battle that is about to start. He is rationalizing all the reasons why he should not fight and avoid pain of battle.
Often our first impulse is to run from our battles. Everyone faces battles in life. There are wars raging around the world; these also reflect the personal battles we face. Everyday we fight against anxiety, doubt, insecurity, and fear.
We battle with our mind to remember what we want to be, do and have. We battle to remember what we stand for and what is important to us. Our ability to remember this determines who we are. As spiritual teacher Tulshi Sen explains in Ancient Secrets of Success:
"That becomes your mindset. And your mindset makes your world. You have the freedom to change you mindset and change your world by realizing that your consciousness is the same as Universal Consciousness."
In the Bhagavad-Gita, Sri Krishna (the Infinite Consciousness) is by Arjuna’s side. Sri Krishna reminds Arjuna why he is facing the battle and why it must be fought.
Two minutes of silence on Remembrance Day helps us to remember how we got to where we are, the courage it takes to be victorious in battle, and also to realize who we are. This silent meditation reminds us that we are Consciousness and we cannot be beaten. Reminding ourselves is re-minding our mindset. Re-minding is putting our mind the way we want it to be which in turn puts our world the way we want it to be.
Re-minding to a state of Universal Consciousness can make everyday a Remembrance Day. Happy Remembrance Day.

Sitting Forward Bend
Yoga Pose to Clear the Mind
|
This is a full stretch of the entire back of the body, from your head to your toes, including the spine and back of the legs. The yogis say it is a great benefit for the nervous system, creates a clear mind, and helps you feel youthful.
|
|
Sit with your legs out straight in front of you and your feet together, with the back of the kneed on the ground. Relax and breathe calmly for a few breaths noticing your state of mind.
Now as you inhale straighten your spine up.
As you exhale bend forward from the hips. Bring your chest towards your knees and reach your hands to your shins or feet. Press your thumb into your big toe nail.
Stay forward and breathe a deep, smooth relaxed breath. With each out breath, release any resistance you notice and relax more deeply. Continue 1 – 3 minutes. To finish, come up slowly and gently as you in breathe.
Then take a moment to feel any changes in your state of mind by sitting and relaxing with your eyes closed.

Remember to be Mindful
The root of the word remember is "memor" which means "mindful." Re means "again" so to remember is to be mindful again.
"In the moment of death while discarding the body, the one who remembers Me alone, attains Me without question."
- Sri Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita, Chapter 8, Verse 5
"I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands."
- Psalm 143:5
"O Lord Master, wherever I remember You, there I find You."
- Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Page 499
